KSJ publishes analysis from writers, economists, researchers and founders who know Zambia well enough to explain it. You do not need to have been published before — you need an argument and the evidence to back it.

What we look for

Original analysis over news replication. If a story has already been reported, tell us what it means and what happens next. The pieces that work best here take one question seriously and answer it with numbers, documents or first-hand reporting.

• Send 300–2000 words of finished writing, not an outline.
• Send work that is yours and has not been published elsewhere.
• Cite your sources in the text — name the report, the dataset, the person.
• Write for a reader who is smart but not a specialist in your field.
