A flat tyre on the way to work. A dead battery in the middle of town. Running out of fuel when you least expect it.

For many motorists, the problem is not only the breakdown itself. It is knowing who to call, where to find help and how long that help will take to arrive.

That is the problem a Zambian startup, HurryApp, is looking to address with a digital roadside assistance platform designed to connect motorists with help when they need it.

Founded by Warren Male, HurryApp is being developed around a simple idea: make roadside assistance easier to access through a single platform.

The service is intended to connect motorists with assistance for some of the most common problems experienced on the road, including flat tyres, dead batteries, fuel shortages and locked-in vehicle keys.

Instead of relying entirely on personal contacts or searching for a mechanic after a breakdown has already happened, the platform aims to give motorists a more direct way of requesting assistance.

More than roadside assistance

HurryApp is also looking beyond emergency call-outs.

The startup says its HurryApp Store will provide access to automotive essentials and roadside products, giving motorists a place to find items they may need for their vehicles and emergencies.

The platform is also being developed with an SOS feature, intended to help users quickly reach emergency assistance when situations become more serious.

This adds another dimension to the platform: rather than focusing only on vehicle repairs, HurryApp is positioning itself around the broader problem of getting assistance when something goes wrong on the road.

Building for Zambia

Roadside assistance remains an area where much of the process can be informal, with motorists often depending on mechanics, friends, garages or individual service providers they already know.

For a driver stranded somewhere unfamiliar, however, that network may not always be available.

HurryApp's proposition is to bring some structure to that process by creating a digital link between motorists and roadside service providers.

The broader opportunity is significant as Zambia's vehicle population continues to support demand for maintenance, repairs, automotive products and emergency services, particularly in urban areas such as Lusaka.

For startups operating in this space, the challenge will ultimately be less about having an app and more about building a dependable service network behind it.

That means having the right providers available, responding quickly, maintaining service quality and giving motorists confidence that when they request help, someone will actually show up.

From an idea to a service

For HurryApp, the next stage will be turning the platform into something motorists can routinely rely on.

The company is inviting motorists to get familiar with the platform as it prepares to expand its roadside assistance offering in Zambia.
